Parque Colon

Those are stores that will open later in the day to generate a lively ambience. This picture was taken in December 2008 near the Navidad (Holidays) festivals.
Parque Nacional
This is a worker of the Parque Nacional (National Park) at Dominicus Americanus. The Park is about a 40 minute walk from the center of town. There were a group of about 10 people lounging around when we got there and couldn't tell if they were really official park people or not. The guide book said so their clothes and manner said otherwise. They asked for money and eventually we gave 200 DR.

Dominicus Americanus
Two tour boats disgorge revelers on the Beach at Dominicus Americanus. Earlier they had been cruising out on the ocean. Note the pier in the background. The sky is clear blue, the weather is nice as usual.
Santo Domingo
I saw Dominos being played all over the city. A game of dominos is fast paced and the clacking of the domino tiles makes it a lively game.

National Park
Cueva de Panchito. This is only one of many Taino (native) caves at the National Park in Dominican Republic. These are about a mile walk from the entrance of the park located in Dominicus Americanus. This is Parque Nacional del Este (East National Park)

In 1492, Columbus Sailed the Ocean Blue. Because Columbus landed in Haiti (Cap Haitian in Haiti, the West Indies) on his famous 1492 voyage, this Bar is named 1492 in honor of his trip. His second voyage and second settlement was established in the Dominican Republic. But his first successful settlement was in Santo Domingo.
